Obituary for Harriet Johnston Hubbard

Harriet Johnston Hubbard
Harriet Hubbard, a recent resident of Prudence Island, died unexpectedly on October 15, 2016 at the age of 78.

Harriet will always be loved and missed by her children and their spouses, John and Beth Hubbard, Lisa and Joe Adams, and Bill Hubbard; her grandchildren Analise Adams, David Hubbard, Amanda Adams and Grace Hubbard; her cousins Michelle Woodward and Tom Truex and their families, as well as numerous close friends.

Harriet was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 11, 1938 to William and Lucille Johnston. She attended Maine Township High School East in Park Ridge and Northwestern University. Harriet spent many years living and traveling all over the world. She eventually settled in Alexandria, VA and spent over 20 years working at the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C., where she made many friendships that have continued until the present. After several years caring for her mother in Naples, Florida, Harriet found Aster Cottage on Prudence Island and fell in love at first sight. She relished every sunrise, every ferry ride, every full moon, and every kind neighbor she met on the island.

Harriet's friends and family will always remember her adventurous spirit, her passion for the environment and the underdog, her compassion, her lively spirit and sense of humor, her curiosity, her love of travel, reading, cooking, and fishing among other things, and her unwavering devotion to her children, who were the center of her life.

A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prudence Island Volunteer Fire Department atwww.pivfd.org
